About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our Enterprise Technology team and take ownership of the performance, security, availability, and scalability of our mission-critical database environments.

This role is designed for a highly technical professional with expertise in managing enterprise database platforms across cloud and hybrid infrastructures. As a Database Administrator, you will oversee database architecture, administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, database security, automation, and capacity planning while ensuring business-critical applications remain highly available and secure.

Working closely with Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, DevOps, Business Intelligence, and Product Development teams, you will contribute to strategic initiatives including cloud migration, database modernization, automation, high availability architecture, and enterprise data governance. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with analytical thinking, proactive monitoring, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and cloud-native database platforms.
  • Monitor database performance, optimize queries, indexes, and execution plans to maximize system efficiency.
  • Develop and implement backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure high availability and business continuity for mission-critical production databases.
  • Perform database upgrades, migrations, patch management, and infrastructure maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with application developers to optimize database design, schema architecture, and SQL performance.
  • Monitor database security by implementing encryption, access controls, authentication policies, auditing, and compliance standards.
  • Support cloud database services within Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Automate database administration tasks using PowerShell, Python, Bash, SQL scripting, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify performance or availability issues.
  • Participate in enterprise cloud migration and database modernization initiatives.
  • Maintain technical documentation, database standards, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
  • Support data governance initiatives, data integrity, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production incidents and provide advanced technical support for critical database environments.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to improve deployment automation and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend infrastructure improvements that enhance scalability, security, and performance.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience administering enterprise database environments.
  • Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or equivalent enterprise database platforms.
  • Experience with cloud database services including Azure SQL Database, Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Azure Managed Instance, Google Cloud SQL, or similar solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Experience implementing backup, replication, clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Proficiency with SQL scripting and database automation tools.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of database security, encryption, auditing, and identity management best practices.
  • Experience supporting enterprise production environments with high availability requirements.
  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional, AWS Certified Database – Specialty, or PostgreSQL certifications are highly preferred.

Strategic Support

The Database Administrator serves as a strategic technology partner responsible for ensuring enterprise data platforms remain secure, reliable, highly available, and scalable. This role supports cloud transformation initiatives, database modernization programs, disaster recovery planning, infrastructure optimization, and enterprise data governance while collaborating with business and technology leaders to align database services with organizational objectives.

Additionally, the position contributes to long-term infrastructure planning, operational resilience, performance optimization, and digital transformation initiatives that enable data-driven business growth.


Working Conditions

  • Fully remote position based within the United States.
  • Standard Monday–Friday business schedule with participation in an on-call rotation for production database support.
  • Frequent collaboration with Software Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Data Engineering, and DevOps teams.
  • Primarily computer-based work involving database administration, monitoring, scripting, and cloud management platforms.
  • Occasional evening or weekend maintenance windows may be required for upgrades and production deployments.
  • Periodic participation in technical planning sessions, architecture reviews, and incident response activities.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation Package: $155,000 – $215,000 annually, based on experience, technical expertise, certifications, database platform specialization, geographic location within the United States, and overall qualifications.
