Director of Investment Operations

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an accomplished and strategically minded Director of Investment Operations to lead investment operations across the organization, ensuring efficient trade processing, portfolio administration, reconciliation, reporting, settlements, data integrity, and operational controls.

This leader will partner closely with Investment Management, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Custody, and external service providers to strengthen operational infrastructure and support scalable investment activity. The ideal candidate brings deep investment-operations expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven record of improving complex financial processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the organization’s investment operations function and establish operational standards.
• Oversee trade capture, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and lifecycle management.
• Manage portfolio accounting, cash management, corporate actions, and investment data processes.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions across investment portfolios.
• Oversee daily reconciliation of cash, positions, transactions, and investment records.
• Partner with investment teams to resolve trade and portfolio-related operational issues.
• Manage relationships with custodians, administrators, brokers, banks, and other service providers.
• Establish and monitor operational controls, procedures, and performance standards.
• Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Lead process improvements, automation, and investment-operations technology initiatives.
• Develop operational dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting.
• Support portfolio valuation, performance reporting, and investment accounting processes.
• Coordinate corporate actions, income processing, and security master-data activities.
• Ensure operational processes support regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements.
• Lead operational due diligence and vendor oversight activities.
• Develop business-continuity and disaster-recovery procedures for investment operations.
• Collaborate with Technology teams on systems integrations, data quality, and platform enhancements.
• Manage operational budgets, resources, and staffing requirements.
• Recruit, coach, and develop investment operations professionals.
• Present operational performance, risks, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
• MBA or advanced finance-related degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive investment operations, asset management, securities operations, or financial-services experience.
• 5+ years of leadership or management experience.
• Strong knowledge of trade lifecycle management, settlements, reconciliations, portfolio accounting, and investment data.
• Experience working with custodians, fund administrators, brokers, and institutional service providers.
• Strong understanding of equities, fixed income, derivatives, alternative investments, or other investment products.
• Experience with investment-management platforms, portfolio accounting systems, and operational technology.
• Strong understanding of operational risk, controls, and financial-services compliance.
• CFA, CPA, CIPM, or comparable professional designation is a plus.

Strategic Support

The Director of Investment Operations will play a critical role in strengthening the organization’s investment infrastructure and operational resilience. The position will ensure that investment activity is processed accurately, efficiently, and within established risk and control frameworks.

The Director will also identify opportunities to automate workflows, improve data quality, strengthen vendor performance, reduce operational risk, and create scalable infrastructure capable of supporting future investment growth.

Working Conditions

• Fully Remote position within the United States.
• Standard Monday through Friday schedule with flexibility based on global markets and settlement requirements.
• Additional hours may occasionally be required during market events, system implementations, or critical operational deadlines.
• Frequent virtual collaboration with Investment Management, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Technology, custodians, and external providers.
• Primarily computer-based work using investment, portfolio, accounting, analytics, and collaboration platforms.
• Occasional domestic or international travel may be required for executive meetings, vendor reviews, conferences, and strategic initiatives.

Job Function

The Director of Investment Operations provides leadership for investment transaction processing, settlements, reconciliations, portfolio administration, investment data, operational controls, vendor management, reporting, and investment-operations transformation.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation Package: $250,000 – $375,000 annually, based on investment-operations leadership experience, portfolio complexity, organizational scope, investment-product expertise, and overall qualifications.
