About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and employee-focused Benefits Specialist to administer employee benefit programs, support benefits enrollment, coordinate with providers, resolve employee inquiries, and maintain accurate benefits records.
The Benefits Specialist will work closely with Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, employees, insurance carriers, brokers, and external benefits providers to ensure benefits programs are administered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong benefits knowledge with excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer employee health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and other benefit programs.
- Manage new-hire, qualifying-event, and annual open-enrollment processes.
- Coordinate employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Respond to employee questions regarding eligibility, coverage, deductions, and benefit plans.
- Work with insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators to resolve issues.
- Reconcile benefit enrollments and deductions with payroll records.
- Maintain accurate employee benefits data within HRIS and benefits administration systems.
- Prepare benefits communications, guides, presentations, and enrollment materials.
- Support annual open enrollment planning and execution.
- Monitor eligibility requirements and ensure accurate benefit administration.
- Assist with benefits audits, invoices, reconciliations, and vendor reviews.
- Track benefits costs and support reporting for HR and Finance leadership.
- Maintain confidential employee information and benefits documentation.
- Assist with compliance-related benefits activities and required reporting.
- Research benefits trends and recommend process improvements.
- Support implementation of new benefits programs and HR technology.
- Maintain documentation of benefits policies, procedures, and workflows.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in employee benefits, HR operations, HR administration, or a related function.
- Strong understanding of U.S. employee benefit programs.
- Experience administering medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement benefits.
- Familiarity with HRIS and benefits administration systems.
- Experience with platforms such as Workday, ADP, UKG, Paylocity, BambooHR, or comparable systems preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and data-reconciliation skills.
- Understanding of benefits compliance requirements preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- HR or benefits certification such as CEBS, SHRM-CP, or PHR is a plus.

Strategic Support
The Benefits Specialist supports the organization’s ability to provide employees with accurate, accessible, and well-administered benefits. This role helps maintain employee satisfaction while ensuring benefits administration remains efficient, accurate, and compliant.
The position also contributes to benefits cost management, vendor relationships, HR reporting, and continuous improvement of employee-service processes.
Working Conditions
- Fully Remote position within the United States.
- Standard Monday through Friday schedule.
- Additional flexibility may occasionally be required during annual open enrollment.
- Frequent virtual collaboration with employees, HR, Payroll, Finance, benefits vendors, and leadership.
- Primarily computer-based work using HRIS, benefits administration, payroll, and collaboration platforms.
- Occasional travel for HR meetings, benefits events, conferences, or company gatherings.
Job Function
The Benefits Specialist administers employee benefits programs, manages enrollment and eligibility processes, coordinates with benefits providers, reconciles benefits data, supports compliance activities, and provides employee benefits support.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation Package: $90,000 – $140,000 annually, based on benefits administration experience, HRIS expertise, organizational complexity, industry background, and overall qualifications.
